The National English Honors Society hosted it’s first Poetry slam. Students prepared poems that were performed among an audience of poetry lovers. Poets were encouraged to spontanioulsly perform or sign up previous to the date.

Janeth Marquez became one of the highlights of the evening due to her voice on bullying and the strength it takes to rise above it. She received and overwhelming round of applause and snaps.

Shaena Johnson also performed her own work on self development in a world that only seeks to bring you down.

“The poems were so moving, Santi Rivera’s poem was my favorite,” said senior Daniela Mendez

If you are interested in performing in the next poetry slam, be sure to keep your eyes out for next year’s sign up
