Over summer break, most people are out having fun at the beach. Many people forget to watch or listen to the news.

Here are the top 10 events that happened over  summer:

  1. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the U.S  won 46 gold medals.
  2.  Zika virus has invaded South Florida, and 557 people have contracted the virus.
  3.  The Democrats nominated Hillary Clinton as their presidential candidate, while the Republicans nominated Donald Trump.
  4. The Black Lives Matter protests continue in the U.S. In Rochester, New York, 74 people were arrested.
  5. Target is planning to spend $20 million to resolve boycotts for transgender restrooms.
  6. The Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando where 50 people were killed and 53 more were injured.
  7. This summer was the hottest summer on record.
  8. NASA’s ‘Juno’ spacecraft started to orbit Jupiter.
  9. A shooting at a Black Lives Matter rally in Dallas resulted in the death of 5 officers and 7 other officers were injured.
  10.  In a surprising vote in Britain called Brexit, voters chose to leave the European Union, one of the United States’ largest trading partners.
