Coach’s Corner: Coach Price

Matthew Leto, Sports Editor

Girls Basketball Coach Price is also known as Coach Price in her gym classes. The girls basketball season started in November and runs through February. This year they hope to make a deep postseason run.

How long have you been coaching at Santaluces?

“This is my second year at Santaluces.”

How long have you coached in total?

“I was a varsity assistant for one year in Idaho before I moved to Florida. This is now my second year as a head coach, so three years in total.”

Why do you coach?

“I love the game of basketball and the opportunities it gives you. I love building relationships through the game. The people on your team are more important than wins or losses. The game itself is exciting and challenges me as a person in a lot of different areas. I am passionate about what I do, and blessed that I have 24 girls by my side learning the game and life lessons.”

Best memory as a coach at Santaluces?

“I have two, the first one was from the beginning of this season. I planned a big team bonding get-away for my varsity team. We went to a big vacation rental house on the beach up north. It was one of the most meaningful and memorable weekends with the girls. It was not about basketball, it was about getting to know one another and setting goals for our season. No distractions just team bonding. That weekend was one of the best I have had with the team! There were many many laughs and fun moments. The second one was seeing my girls get  in the top 10 girls basketball teams in Palm Beach County through the palm beach post. For us it was a confidence booster because we had set major goals this year and that’s just a stepping stone in the right direction. It is cool to see the girls gain confidence in themselves and in our program as we build. Seeing our name listed was a proud coach moment.”
