Lauren’s Quarantine

The last semester of high school was supposed to be filled with celebrations and memories to last a lifetime. All of this was turned upside down with one virus, COVID-19.

Going into high school, I have looked forward to prom, Grad Bash and most importantly, walking across the stage to receive my diploma. Throughout these last four years, I have worked extremely hard to keep up my grades and do my best in every class to get to this point in senior year.

Knowing that I will never have these memories has been extremely hard to deal with and disheartening. One day, all the other graduating classes, before us and after us, will be reminiscing on their graduation and proms. The class of 2020, however, will never get to experience these memories.

No matter what channel you turn on, there is no escaping the Coronavirus. Dead tolls are constantly increasing in the United States. There seems to be no end right now. Because of this, having family members that are older and have health conditions has also been extremely scary due to the fact that this disease is mostly killing people who are immune-compromised and older.

Putting all my worrying and negativity aside, this quarantine has been somewhat beneficial to me. I have time to relax, get more sleep, and spend time with family. I have not had to worry about any homework assignments that I have to do. Instead, I have been able to go in my pool, read a book, and watch new tv shows and movies. Being able to spend quality time with my mom has been really nice. Soon, if everything clears up, I will be off to college. Having this time with my mom now is a great way to spend this quarantine.

Even though this virus has knocked my world down, there are people dying from this heartless virus every day. Doctors and nurses are putting themselves in harm’s way, trying to help. Teachers have now had to adapt to virtual learning. The whole world is going through a terrible time. Luckily, me and my family and friends are okay. I would rather have that than a prom or Grad Bash any day.
