NYFW 2014 Ends

New York Fashion Week has come to a close. It took place the week of February 6th and has already set the stage for this year’s trends and fashion staples. These trends include bold furs, heavy texture, and edgy sportswear.

Fall fashion mostly consists of oversized coats and jackets. It seems this trend was pulled right out of popular 80s cult classics, like The Heathers. Black, tan, and gold can be seen on the runway, frequently.

While you’ll see mostly loose-fitting, white articles of clothing, many neutral, earthy tones like browns, tans, and beiges took the catwalk, as well.

Not everyone realizes how much they are affected by New York Fashion week and fashion in general. The clothes you purchase from popular stores such as H&M, Forever 21, PacSun, American Eagle, Hollister, and American Apparel, are almost directly influenced by the runway.

“I just love fashion because what you wear definitely reflects who you are,” said sophomore Shianne Simpson. “I love putting together an outfit based on what I like.”

Walking down the halls at Santaluces, you’ll see direct influence from New York Fashion Week runways. So before you decide that fashion has nothing to do with you, try to take a moment and realize that what you are wearing was once just an idea of a fashion designer.
