Hulu’s New Hit Series: The Act
April 2, 2019
The Act is a show that everyone has been anticipating. The show is based on real events that took place in the lives of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. The mother, Dee Dee, took care of her sick daughter, Gypsy, who suffered from leukemia, asthma, muscular dystrophy, and brain damage from when she was younger. Gypsy was also in wheelchair and was both vision and hearing impaired. However, as many claimed, everything was not what it seemed.
The first episode starts off with an emergency call from a neighbor. During this scene, the audience is informed of the current situation and is introduced to the Facebook posts that were found on the shared Facebook between Dee Dee and Gypsy. The neighbors, Mel and her daughter, Lacey, were knocking on the Blanchard’s front door and not receiving a response. This leads to Mel having to climb through a window to search through the house and it cuts off.
As of now, The Act is a high-rating show with an 8.5/10 on IMDb and 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. This is no surprise as many people are heavily interested in what happened and why it happened. Everyone questioned how something like this could happen to an innocent mother and daughter. It seemed like murder in cold blood. The mastermind behind it all was Gypsy Rose along with her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, who was the one that stabbed Dee Dee Blanchard in her sleep.
“The Act is a good way to portray what happened to the Blanchard’s,” says senior Dennis Enamorado. “It lets the audience visualize what actually went on in their lives.”
The Act is highly popular because it tells the Blanchard’s story from the very beginning. It doesn’t fail to miss a single detail from Gypsy’s stuffed animals to Dee Dee becoming the violent mother she was discovered to be.
Senior Nathalia Sotomayor is a fan of the show, “It’s a really messed up story,” she says. “It shows how the closest people to you will do whatever it takes to get what they want.”
The Act is on Hulu as an original Hulu series and new episodes come out every Wednesday, ready for viewers to stream on their phone or TV.
