Relay For Life is a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. Over 5,000 Relay For Life events take place over 20 countries and are held in local communities, university campuses and virtual worlds. The funds raised and the awareness spread through Relay For Life honors survivors and remembers loved ones as well as help give cancer patients and their families the resources that they need.

On Saturday, March 30, 2019 Relay For Life will be hosted in West Palm Beach at the South Florida Fairgrounds. It will take place from 3-11 p.m.

Many clubs from Santaluces will be attending such as Key Club, Anime Club, Mega Club, National Art Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and National Honor Society. Students that participate will get community service hours. Leading up to the event, all the clubs are participating in a fundraising event in which students can buy a paper bag for a dollar and decorate the bag with someone’s name that has passed from cancer or has fought or is currently fighting cancer.

The theme this year is ‘Get Your Heart in the Game’ and each individual club will have a specific game as their theme. The more people that participate in the theme, the more points the school receives. At the end of the event, an award is given to those who have the most spirit points. To sign up, join the school’s team named Santaluces. Friends and parents are also invited to come participate with our team. People in the community that are not able to attend can also donate online to help support the event.

“Relay For Life was super fun because I was able to see all of my friends and I was able to help a good cause and raise a bunch of money.” said junior Sophia Clifton

Do not forget to bring money because while walking the track, participants can stop at tents and play fun games such as Twister and football. There are also lots of tents that sell food and other miscellaneous items such as clothing items and jewelery. All of the proceeds go towards the American Cancer Society and help the fight against cancer.

“Relay was not only inspiring but it was so much fun to participate in all of the fundraisers that were set up.” said senior Madison Ford.
