Future FSU Nole: Suangely Maldonado

March 5, 2019

Being the first in her family to graduate high school and advance into college, Santaluces senior Suangely Maldonado, is beyond ecstatic with her acceptance into one of Florida’s top universities.

“Being a first generation student sometimes has its challenges. However, I constantly work to make sure that I succeed and make my family proud,” says Maldonado.

With the mindset of making her family proud, Suangely has always been college bound. Having her career chosen early in middle school, she worked hard to achieve her long-term goal.

“I want to major in Philosophy and later go into law school,” says Maldonado, “My long-term goal is to eventually become a criminal or domestic lawyer”

Introduced to the CARE program at Florida State University by Mrs. Heaven, an on campus TRIO advisor, Suangely was aided in applications and mentored throughout high school.

The CARE program provides Suangely the opportunity to apply for scholarships and aids her financially.

Suangely will be entering Florida State for summer term.

“The program will help me establish a smooth transition from high school to college.” says Maldonado.

The FSU CARE program provides guidance, mentorship, and assistance throughout the years of those accepted.
