Santaluces Chief Emily English is an honor roll student, band captain, and avid Star Wars fan. Emily recently traveled to Chicago for Star Wars Celebration 2019. Star Wars Celebration is an annual convention where thousands of Star Wars fans come together in various cities around the U.S. Emily has gone to the convention two years in a row- last year in Orlando being her first time ever.

Being able to experience the Star Wars fandom in this manner has been a big deal as she has been a fan of Star Wars for as long as she can remember. It is something her Dad introduced her to and they still get to bond over it to this day. The movies’ abilities to be relatable while still being a sci-fi fantasy has always intrigued Emily.

“It has changed the filmmaking game and is one of the few things that actually stands the test of time as it’s incredible even forty plus years later,” she said.

Star Wars Celebration 2019 was an amazing weekend for Emily. She got the opportunity to go to multiple panels specifically the panel for the upcoming and final installment to the newest Star Wars trilogy. Emily got to see the director JJ Abrams and some of the cast including Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac. Emily also got to meet Hayden Christensen who played Anakin Skywalker in the prequels.

Emily discusses her experience saying,”Seeing the ‘Holy Trinity’ (Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac) of our generation made me cry. I got to see Oscar Isaac, a Santaluces alumni, up close and I attempted to let him know that I go to Santaluces and he waved! I also got to meet Hayden Christensen and he was very sweet.”

Not only did she get to have the time of her life at Star Wars Celebration, Emily got to explore Chicago too. Emily went to Cubs baseball game and got to explore some Chicago landmarks like The Bean.

“Chicago was beautiful and very cold! I’ve lived in Florida my entire life and I got to experience snow for the first time,” said Emily. “The city was so alive and bright. I also tried some Chicago classics like a Chicago hot dog and a trademark Deep-Dish Pizza.”

Emily’s Star Wars adventures do not plan on ending despite having to miss the convention in Anaheim next year. She plans on exploring the new Disney World Star Wars land this fall. Emily also plans on seeing the new Star Wars film in December.

“The bond Star Wars has provided for my family and I is something very special that I will hold on to forever,” says Emily.
