Science National Honor Society is a club here at Santaluces that focuses on STEAM community contributions. This week Science National Honors Society started preparing for the haunted house in October by making posters and going through inventory. Students from SNHS started to make posters to let students at Santaluces know about the upcoming haunted house. SNHS hosts the haunted house to help fundraise for the community and for SNHS.
This year’s annual haunted house hosted by Science National Honor Society and National Honor Society is on October 24th here at Santaluces. This is the 7th year in a row that we are hosting the haunted house, it is the biggest fundraiser that we do all year. Everyone is welcome, however we advise that little friends do not go through the house as it is very scary.
My personal experience at the event last year was as a scary actor. My job was to scare people as they exited the first room. I would make loud noises by hitting a fake bat on a teacher’s desk. There are many different activities during the haunted house, outside we have games, music, and food trucks. Every year many clubs participate by selling food or drinks, for example last year the National Art Honor Society sold snow cones and cotton candy.
The house itself has many different rooms, themes, and actors. The many different themed rooms include slenderman, haunted circus, nuclear disaster, silent hill/resident evil, and haunted space. In the years past, many kids have reported not knowing where they are in the school while going through the haunted house. SNHS and NHS put days worth of work into the haunted house, so make sure to show up and have a great time.
SNHS participates and hosts many other events during the year including Relay for Life, Adopt-a-Family, and STEAM fair.
Relay for life is a year-long program that raises money for the American Cancer Society. Their main event is a festival where many sponsors including Santaluces High School come together to honor survivors and people currently battling cancer. This event brings communities together to help support people going through rough times who need more support.
Adopt-a-Family is when we collect Christmas gifts for kids in foster homes and families that may not be able to afford Christmas gifts that year. Last year we helped 18 families have a toy-filled holiday, this year our goal is to help 22 family’s have a memorable Christmas time.
STEAM fair is an event held during both lunches in April dedicated to helping students learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math career choices. Students in SNHS make poster boards decorated with information on different STEAM career paths.
The Science National Honor Society does many events to help support the community. Not only can you get community service hours, it’s a way to get out of your comfort zone, meet new people, and try out different things. SNHS is an inclusive club for all who have a 3.2 GPA or higher here at Santaluces. Don’t forget to come support the annual Haunted House on October 24th from 4:00-8:00 pm at Santaluces High School, $5 dollar to enter in (CASH ONLY).
