Billie Eilish’s Debut Album Soars To Success

April 14, 2019

Billie Eilish is a 17 year old singer-songwriter who has proven there are no boundaries to music with her debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?. The album debuted March 29th of this year, nearly two years after her EP don’t smile at me was released. Quite like Eilish’s EP, her debut album has been a worldwide hit. And the success is not stopping anytime soon.

Eilish wrote When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? alongside her brother Finneas who also produced and recorded the debut album. Earlier in the year, the world received a taste of the new album with “when the party’s over” and “bury a friend”. These two songs encompass the album quite perfectly with the softness of “when the party’s over” and the eerie nature of “bury a friend”. The juxtaposition of Eilish’s soft voice with the intense music creates a melody that is unlike any other artists’ today.

Billie Eilish as held a multitude of top spots in the charts since the album debuted including:

  • No.1 on Billboard Artist 100
  • No.1 album on Billboard 200
  • 12 out of 13 songs on the album make Billboard Hot 100
  • No.1 album on Apple Music Top Charts
  • No.2-No.7 song on Apple Music Top Charts

Eilish’s chart success is huge for an up and coming artist like herself. But to Eilish, story-line and meaning is everything. Billie Eilish says “When we made ‘bury a friend,’ the whole album clicked in my head. I immediately knew what it was going to be about, what the visuals were going to be, and everything in terms of how I wanted it to be perceived. It inspired what the album is about. ‘bury a friend’ is literally from the perspective of the monster under my bed. If you put yourself in that mindset, what is this creature doing or feeling?” She continues.“I also confess that I’m this monster, because I’m my own worst enemy. I might be the monster under your bed too.”

When discussing Billie Eilish, people automatically become intrigued by the uniqueness she brings to music today. Santaluces Chief Ouassima Kenzi says “I like the album because of how different all the songs are and how varied their sounds are. I feel she experimented a lot with sound editing especially in ‘bury a friend’”.

It’s no surprise that the music industry has a new star. What makes Eilish so special is her ability to appeal to the masses with music that is unlike anything else. Especially at the age of 17. Billie Eilish’s success has only grown over the past three years and her music style has been constantly evolving. It is only a matter of time before she wows again with a hopefully even more impressive album.
