Val Carnegie Scores Three; Santaluces Defeats Olympic Heights 39-14

November 5, 2018

With hopes of finishing the varsity football season on the high note, the Chiefs traveled to Boca Raton to face off against the Olympic Heights Lions. In order to defeat the Lions, the Chiefs turned to their Junior running back Val Carnegie and their strong defense.

Three times in the first half, the Chiefs found themselves near the Lions goal line. All three times, the Chiefs handed the football off to Carnegie, who went into the end zone untouched each time.

Carnegie first reached the end zone on their first play of the second quarter, when the Chiefs offensive line helped push Carnegie in from 4 yards out.

Just 5 minutes following the first touchdown, Carnegie would add his second and double the Chiefs lead when Carnegie walked into the end zone untouched. With 4 minutes remaining in the first half, Carnegie would complete the trifecta on a short touchdown run, giving the Chiefs a 21-7 lead, sealing the victory for the Chiefs.

Right before halftime, the Chiefs would all but finish off Olympic Heights when senior Anthony Caldwell took a  screen pass for a touchdown from 25-yards out. Right before halftime, a blocked punt by the Chiefs special teams would give the Chiefs a 32-7 lead.

In the 4th quarter, a touchdown pass by senior Gerry Charles to senior Keyondric Sams gave the Chiefs a 39-7 lead.

The win propels the Chiefs to a 6-4 record on the season, the win is a fitting ending to the Chiefs turnaround from 2-8 just a season prior.
