Biden wants to fix the prison system by abolishing the death penalty, ending cash bail, and eliminating private prisons. In terms of education, Biden believes that two years of college should be free and that the government should expand or fix existing debt-relief programs. Biden hopes to protect the environment by taxing carbon emissions and paying farmers to adopt climate-friendly practices. Socially, Biden is in favor of universal background checks for guns, some limits on abortion, and the decriminalization of marijauna. He wants to raise the federal minimum wage to $15/hour, has indicated support for paid family and sick leave, and wishes to increase existing taxes on upper-income Americans. Biden opposes Medicare for all, but would expand coverage. He also wants to pay for infrastructure through changing taxes on corporations and the wealthy. Unlike Sanders, Biden wants to boost the defense budget.
