For those of you who may not know the name, Wes Craven is the creator of almost every classic horror movie that’s ever haunted your nightmares. He has written, directed, and produced over 30 films during his career, that spanned over several decades. Among these, include The Last House on the Left (1972), The Hills Have Eyes (1977), A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), Scream (1996), and Red Eye (2005).
According to Craven’s family, he had long battled brain cancer, a fight he had unfortunately lost this past Wednesday (August 30).
Craven was the mastermind behind what is arguably the most well-known and classic horror film of all time. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) virtually shaped the horror genre. The film gave a face to our nightmares, one that was badly burned and essentially ash, with the name Freddy Krueger.
Amongst his many game-changing horror films, one completely revolutionized the horror genre. Scream (1996), the slasher film that not only followed the guidelines that are necessary for a scary movie, but spoke of the specific rules that take place during a slasher film, while also making real-life references to a long list of classic horror films, like Halloween (1978) and Carrie (1976).
Besides being well crafted in the movie making industry, it has often been said that Craven was a “mild-mannered” and soft-spoken man, his family reported to multiple news sources, including CNN. People all over the world have been paying tribute and celebrating his many successes since the first report of the bad news. Craven’s legacy will live on in his many films.
