The classic detective is back for yet another mystery.

BBC released a new episode of their popular series Sherlock. Shown on American televisions on PBS, Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes) and Martin Freeman (John Watson) amaze viewers yet again.

It takes place in Victorian London, instead of the usual Modern-Day London. Holmes and Watson are together again solving crimes as they do. The mystery this time around contains more horror than the usual. The “baddie” in the story involved a woman who killed herself, yet came back to life to murder her husband.

However, not all was well and rosy in London.

By the late 1800’s, the Suffragette Movement was in full swing. Many viewers couldn’t help but notice how the men in the episode treated the women. A familiar and beloved female character was seen dressed as a man so that she could work the morgue. The Suffragettes were dressed uncomfortably similar to the Ku-Klux Klan.

Right as the crime appeared to be solved, viewers are snapped back to the plane Sherlock was last seen on. It seems that all of what was seen was just a dream. It was very much similar to Inception.

The jumping between the past and present confused viewers. That was not the only quality of the episode that was enough to confuse, though. At the end of season three, Professor James Moriarty, Sherlock’s arch-enemy, came back asking “Did you miss me?” in a distorted voice. He supposedly shot himself in the season two finale, so how could he still be alive? Moriarty makes an appearance in this special, but only in the past.

This episode left much unanswered. With season four filming starting in the spring, viewers must wait yet again to see how everything connects. Hopefully it doesn’t take two years to show the new episodes.
