YouTube is a platform for getting your fix on toddlers biting the fingers of their siblings, parodies of pop hits, and the latest music videos from your favorite artists. YouTube has played a crucial part in music over it’s eight year life span and is celebrating it with it’s first ever music award show.
Jason Schwartzman and Reggie Watts will both co-host the spectacle, and Spike Jonze will take on the role of creative director. The broadcast will include performances from Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire, and Eminem along with artists who had an impact on the site through their videos, like violinist Lindsey Stirling and comedic group CDZA.
Nominees were chosen based upon the most views, comments, likes, shares, and subscriptions their videos had. Winners will be chosen, as usual, by fans who must share the nomination videos of the nominee of their choice through social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
The Video of the Year category has powerhouses like Demi Lovato, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, and Selena Gomez, along with Kpop group Girls’ Generation and the king of 2013, PSY.
The category for YouTube Phenomenon is filled with the songs that haunt our innermost thoughts such as “Thrift Shop,” the foreign dance craze “Gangnam Style,” and the long forgotten “Harlem Shake.”
The other categories are Artist of the Year, Response of the year, YouTube Breakthrough, and Innovation of the Year.
The show will air on November 3rd.
