Chiefs at Santaluces have a unique opportunity to register to vote during school hours.
The League of Women Voters are coming during both lunches on Friday and will be in the lobby of the little theater and lecture hall.
You have to be sixteen years or older to preregister to vote and need identification like a driver’s license or your last four digits of your social security number. Also, you must be a citizen of the United States to preregister.
What you must have ready is your first name, address of where you live, and your date of birth.
If you pre-register to vote, this means you are being added to the voter registration list with a pending or pre-registration status. Upon turning 18, you are then moved to the regular voter registration list and sent your voting information. From there, you will be able to cast your ballot when the next election comes around.
Mr. Jayne, an AICE International Teacher who is putting the event together, says it is important for teens to register to vote because they matter and their voice matters.
If you can not make it to this event then you can register to vote at the department of motor vehicles, armed forces recruitment centers, or online.
Even though it may seem too early to register to vote, there are many benefits to registering.
- You do not have to worry about doing it later on down the road. Why wait when you can do it now?
- It is easy and convenient to do it now.
- Pre-Registering to vote will allow teens to automatically be able to participate in elections once the hit the official age of eighteen.
Sabrina Luu, who is a senior and already pre-registered believes other kids should register to vote because it is an essential part of what being an American is.
Most seniors this year will be able to vote in the 2020 presidential election. Why not register now so you are ready to vote next year?
