Last night during Monday Night Football the new Star Wars trailer premiered. Fans from all over the country tuned in to the New York Giants vs Philadelphia Eagles game just to watch the two minute clip.
The trailer features the new heroes portrayed by Daisy Ridley and John Boyega as well as one of the stars of the original trilogy – Harrison Ford as Han Solo. Viewers were also excited to see that notable icons such as The Millennium Falcon and R2D2 will feature in the new film.
LucasFilms also released tickets for pre-order for the movie being released this year on December 18th. The impact of people trying to save their seats for the premiere was so great that websites such as Fandago crashed. Early screenings began to sell out instantly. #TheForceAwakens also trended on social media sites such as Twitter and Instagram.
Students here at Santaluces took part in the excitement of the trailer release.
“I was jumping up and down in anticipation before it aired,” says Emily English, a Freshman. “I was worried it wouldn’t live up to my expectations but it totally did.” Emily also ordered her tickets right as they went on sale.
The Force Awakens will be the first Star Wars movie made by Disney, which bought the rights to the franchise back in 2012. This change has created a concern for many fans, and added to the anticipation of the trailer release.
“I think Disney will do something great with the movie, despite all of the bad that people have said,” said Bradley Dileonardo, a Junior.
