With the new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game out now, it’s hard to believe that some fans pirated the game weeks before its original release.
The people said to be responsible for this is a group called WarezNX; they have their own Discord Server. They have been pirating switch games, such as Diablo 3, but this is their biggest heist yet.
Due to this game becoming leaked, a few members of the community feel bittersweet about their actions.
In an interview with Vice Motherboard, an admin of the WarezNX Discord server named JJ said,
“Although I usually have nothing against leaks, I did feel the game leaking this early was a bad thing. I specifically told people to wait until three days before launch if anything was to leak, spoiling the game for the public this early just feels wrong.”
And at the end of the interview, JJ stated: “I am playing it right now, LOL.”
As of now their discord code on Reddit has been taken down, most likely because of their most recent heist.
YouTubers as well tempted to spread these leaks as well. Several YouTube channels that contain unreleased footage are being copyrighted and channels are being taken down because of it.
A Youtuber named Dystify had his channel taken down for releasing the entire game soundtrack on YouTube. The soundtrack contains 850 music tracks in its entirety.
Things, such as leaking games early and spoiling it for others, are the main reason why Masahiro Sakurai is reluctant to have a story mode in the Smash Bros. series.
Masahiro Sakurai stated back in 2014 “Unfortunately, the movie scenes we worked hard to create were uploaded onto the Internet. You can only truly wow a player the first time he sees [a cutscene]. I felt if players saw the cutscenes outside of the game, they would no longer serve as rewards for playing the game, so I’ve decided against having them.”
Back then it was spoiling a campaign mode for a game, now it’s spoiling the entire game before it comes out. Things like this insult creators like Sakurai, so next time you are tempted to download a game illegally, think of the creators and say no.
