The Millionaire Detective – Balance: Unlimited is a popular new anime that has captured the hearts of anime fans around the world. It premiered on April 9, 2020, and reached its final episode on September 24, 2020.
With a catchy title song named “NAVIGATOR” by Japanese boy group SixTONNES, beautiful animation work, and comedic characters, this series is a must-watch for any anime fans.
The anime follows the story of police detectives Daisuke Kambe and Haru Kato as they navigate their rocky partnership and catch the man who murdered Daisuke’s mother 19 years ago.
Daisuke Kambe is an eccentric and wealthy young man; he is the heir of the affluent Kambe family. Dressing in a sleek, black three-piece suit and driving a Bentley Continental GT, he is not one to be shy when it comes to showing off his wealth. He possesses a very calm demeanor when faced with danger. During any fight, he pays for any damages incurred by speaking to his A.I. butler – HEUSC, who is embedded into an earring and a pair of sunglasses.
Despite his immense wealth, he applied for a lower-ranking position in the Modern Crime Prevention Task Force, or shortly known as “Modern Crimes”; this department is where officers in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department are sent if their performance in the force is subpar. Later in the series, we find out that Daisuke joined this department because it has attempted to solve his mother’s murder case 19 years ago.
Haru Kato has been assigned to Modern Crimes after a traumatic accident occurred while he was working in Investigation Division 1; the elite department of the police force. He is the more empathic and headstrong of the two and will risk his life to save others.
While working in Modern Crimes, he is assigned to be Daisuke’s mentor. This is the beginning of a tumultuous partnership that eventually leads to a growing understanding between the two.
Suzie Kambe is another integral character in the series; she is Daisuke’s relative and the technological mastermind behind all of Daisuke’s tools and weapons.
This anime is an interesting watch; it’s filled with the constant clashing of Daisuke and Haru, and how they attempt to work together despite their contrasting personalities.
In the first episode, Daisuke chases a pair of robbers to the end of a drawbridge as it is about to open. Haru also wants to catch the robbers but ends up getting unnecessarily hurt, thanks to Daisuke’s rash actions. This is just one of many incidents when the duo conflicts with each other.
This series has definitely skyrocketed to the top of my favorite animes, and Daisuke and Haru’s bickering makes it worthwhile.
