Canadian superstar, Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd will be the headliner for Super Bowl LV. After having a successful 2020, The Weeknd continues his momentum into the new year with this performance and the announcement of his “After Hours” tour that will take place in 2022.
The Toronto native has had 3 albums to hit No.1 on the Billboard 200, his latest being the 2020 album “After Hours”. His well-known hit “Blinding Lights” set records. The song spent 46 weeks in the Billboard Hot 100 and has also spent 37 weeks in the top five.
After slamming the Grammy’s for snubbing him, The Weeknd went viral for his “Save Your Tears” music video. The music video, which follows the “After Hours” narrative now has 100 million views on Youtube. The song will be expected to be on the setlist alongside Blinding Lights, In Your Eyes, and other songs from his last two albums.
In an interview with Billboard, The Weeknd’s managers, Amir “Cash” Esmailian and Wassim “Sal” Slaiby revealed that The Weeknd spent $7 million of his own money to go towards the performance.
The Super Bowl between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs will take place on February 7th in Tampa.
