Taylor Swift took social media like a storm when she announced her 10th studio album live at the 2022 Video Music Awards on Sunday, August 28th, after accepting the “Video of the Year” award for her short film, “All Too Well: The Short Film.”
This is Taylor’s third “Video of the Year” award, officially making history by being the only artist to earn three VMAs “Video of the Year” awards. She also won the “Best Direction” and the “Best Longform Video” for “All Too Well.”
“If you were gonna be this generous, and give us this [award],” Began Swift in her acceptance speech. “I thought it might be a fun moment to tell you that my brand new album comes out October 21st.”
The album, entitled “Midnights,” is fully comprised of songs that she wrote at, well, midnight.
“This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night,” Reads the post she made on social media about the album. “a journey through terrors and sweet dreams.”
Many “Swifties,” the fandom name for Taylor Swift fans, had a feeling that something was going to happen at the VMAs, but they didn’t know what it was going to be. This is because of the upcoming anniversary of the infamous 2009 VMAs where Kane West interrupted Taylor’s acceptance speech on stage and subtle hints about a potential re-recording of one of her albums “Reputation.”
Swift has started re-recording all of her previous albums in order to get rights to her songs, something she didn’t have in a previous contract she signed with her previous manager, Scooter Braun. So far, she has re-recorded “Fearless (Taylor’s Version” and “Red (Taylor’s Version).”
Many believed that we were about to get “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)” given the fact that she has been giving a lot of “Reputation” era easter eggs and wore a very similar dress to the one seen in the “Look What You Made Me Do” music video, the music video that ushered in the “Reputation” era. Instead of a re-recorded album, Swifties will be receiving a brand-new one.
“Midnights” by Taylor Swift will be dropping on October 21st, at midnight. Pre-orders out now.
