#5 Cigarettes After S**
I have really loved Cigarettes After S** for a long time ever since I started high school, which is when I was introduced, and I really connected to their songs. I really love the soft and calming and how you feel their beats, and their beginning instrumental is what brings out the feelings and the emotions they are trying to convey. A few of their songs that stay with me and stick with me are Cry, Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby, and Sweet. One of their top masterpieces is their song Cry, which is a song about when you are in a relationship and you know the other person is less affectionate, but it is from the POV of the less affectionate partner. It is that the less affectionate partner still loves their partner but still has intentions of cheating, so their love is not enough for a healthy relationship, but this may be because of their own issues. They are unable to stay faithful, and the realization pains them, and they’re aware of the pain it will cause their partner and the partner as sadness and regret knowing how it’ll end. Cigarettes After S** has very important and intelligent instrumentals and meanings that it is literally genius.
#4 Alex G
I love Alex G because of his deeper meanings in his songs that are very emotional, and I really like how his beats are like a feeling you feel, and you actually can feel the beats as if it were an emotion. How the instruments are played plays a key part in how it affects how you feel about the music, and the feeling is just so refreshing to hear and feel. A few of his songs that really hit the deepest for me are Break, I Wait for You, Pretend, and Sometimes, and the best thing is all of these songs don’t even sound the same from the voice to the beat to the precision of the instruments. One of his top masterpieces is his song “Break which is a song about wanting to run away from your issues and disappear, and by running away, he wants to escape and numb his pain because of the immense amount of exhaustion they feel from life. It could also mean how you know the relationship is bad and exhausting, but you would break yourself for them because they can’t let go and how hard it is to let go. Alex G is a lyrical and instrumental genius in this form because of how much you can connect to his music, which for some artists is not always the case.
#3 Phoebe Bridgers
I love Phoebe Bridgers because she is a very smart artist with her lyrics and the effect it has on people, and I am one of those people because for me all of these singers get me in a very emotional state. Like her deliverance in her songs and music really is literally the key point and what helps with the emotional stance, and her instrumental and her lyrics are important to anyone who relates. A few of her songs that really take a toll on me and that I feel on a deep level are Waiting Room, Scott Street, and Motion Sickness. Her masterpiece of a song, Waiting Room, even brings me to tears because it is for people who know it better for them to let go but are hopeless romantics. There are 2 versions, and in the second one, she is finally accepting what is better for her, and she makes her choice. She is also at a point where she has to be stern with herself because she needs to let go because they will never feel the same way she feels. She is an actual lyrical and emotional genius.
#2 Mitski
Mitski’s talent is a very different and interesting talent you do not see in many artists in today’s day, but it is because of how connected she is with her music. There are many times where I have cried to her music because of how deeply I felt for it and how connected I was. I would repeat her songs daily just so I could take it in for 3 minutes more of her music. A few of her songs that I have had a great deep connection to are First Love/Late Spring, Washing Machine Heart, and I Bet on Losing Dogs. Washing Machine Heart and I Bet on Losing Dogs have a special meaning because it is about entering a relationship that is damaging and knowing it is toxic and wanting it to be different, and it is when you keep betting on something or someone that is a lost cause. She made these songs, and Mitski is a genius with her metaphors and different meanings.
#1 Billie Eilish
I feel like Billie Eilish is the best artist, mostly in an emotional aspect because of how I relate to her music and how some songs are emotional to the point of tears. Some of her few very emotional songs are Wildflower, The 30th, Goodbye, and I Love You. There are many more as well, but when you understand her thought process or the many meanings to her songs, you can relate to a single song in more than just a way. I also love her because she is not just one genre of music, and her different songs have different feelings to them from the lyrics and the beats, and her songs are also influenced by different genres as well. I feel like her music is easy to relate to, whether you are a teenager or an adult. Wildflower has a special meaning to me, and it can be interpreted in different ways, but the way I see it is when you have no clue who or what your significant other is thinking about and when you have never been a first choice with anyone. It makes you also question how they feel about you, and you want to not think about it, but it haunts you. You wonder if you did something wrong, and you also just wonder if they think of their ex when they’re with you. She connects to her music in such a different and interesting way, and she knows the different ways to interpret it and also its BILLIE EILISH.
