For this year’s Meet the Teacher, I decided to interview Mrs. Renzette, who is an AICE Environmental Management teacher. Mrs. Renzette is one of my favorite teachers, and it was a lovely experience to get to know more about her and what sparked her interest to work in the teaching field; the following will be a Q&A of her responses. I also included a short game of Would You Rather in the Q&A as well. The following text is the Q&A:
- How long have you been teaching at Santaluces?
Mrs. Renzette: “I’ve been teaching for 31 years, and I’ve been teaching here for 27 of those years.”
2. Why did you become a teacher, and why the AICE Environmental Management elective?
Mrs. Renzette: “I’ve always pictured myself helping and instructing young people, and I think another reason was because my dad was a teacher. He used to take me to his school, and I would see him teaching, and I would think, ‘That’s what I want to do. For why I chose the AICE elective, I actually didn’t think of doing it, but one of them was a teacher a few years ago. She was an AICE academy director, and she came to me and asked me if I would like to try it. I was actually scared and nervous, but I always like to try something new, especially when it comes to teaching, because it helps keep things interesting, and you get to meet different kinds of students. My first year of teaching was really a challenge, but I feel like now I know so much better what to expect from the paper that the students have at the end of the year.
3. If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be doing instead for work?
Mrs. Renzette: “I haven’t really thought about being anything else but a teacher. I’ve been teaching for 31 years total. I do like to clean a lot, so I would probably run some kind of cleaning business or maybe be someone that helps out at animal shelters since I love animals also.”
4. When you’re tired or stressed from school, what do you do to relax?
“I usually try to get active in any way I can. I hike, swim, and jog. I also do rock climbing.”
5. Do you have any advice for students?
“One piece of advice I would give to students is that I would encourage them to communicate with their teachers when they are having problems. As a teacher, we don’t always know what’s going on in your personal life or if you are having trouble with our work, so communicating with us is highly important.”
(WRITER’S NOTE: Hey! So I just wanted to inform you that I recorded this Q&A on my phone, and the recording cut off around the transition to the Would You Rather question. I didn’t realize it cut off until the end of the interview, so I’m going off what I remember she told me… Sorry about that.

Would You Rather
- Live in a world where magic is real but technology is primitive or a world where advanced technology exists but magic is forbidden?
“II would say live in a world where magic is real but technology isprimitive;, if we had advanced magic, what would we need technology for?.”
2. Have the power to bring extinct species back or prevent future species from going extinct?
“Probably prevent future species from going extinct; those extinct species are already gone. We should try to save future species while we can.”
3. Never have to sleep again or never have to eat again?
“I would prefer to never eat again; I really love sleeping. I don’t think I could sacrifice
it.”
(WRITER’S NOTE (Ramble): Last note, this answer had me perplexed. I love to sleep too, Mrs. Renzette, but NEVER eat again!! I can’t comprehend that answer; there is still so much food out there waiting to be tried. Plus, if you think about it, if you’re awake 24/7, nobody can ever catch you lacking.)
