Santaluces High School has a boy soccer team here. The team is filled with great players who have the spirit to win every game, no matter the outcome. The team is excited for the season and hopes to have many wins. We had the opportunity to interview three soccer players and how they feel about the sport and experience of soccer and the team.
Alex Osorio is a junior who is a center attacking midfielder; he controls the tempo to make passes or create chances for others to score. He has been playing soccer for 5 years. He got into soccer by watching his older brother play. His favorite memory with the Santaluces Soccer team has been the bus rides to and from games.
Cristian Clavijo is a sophomore who is an attacking midfielder who creates chances and scores goals. He has been playing travel soccer since he was 5, traveling the country doing tournaments. We also asked what the tryout process was like for him. He responded by saying “the tryout process was smooth as the coaches made it easy to convey each of our skills and traits.” He hopes to continue either football or soccer after high school.
Shane Rodger is a junior who is the Santaluces soccer team goalkeeper. His favorite memory is from last year when he got a clean sheet against Forest Hill High School; basically, the other team scored no points the whole game. He is able to calm his nerves before games by talking to his teammates and warming up properly. Shane recommends for first-timers to “genuinely just have fun.” He also says that it’s normal to be competitive but not to let it ruin your confidence. Always keep trying.
The Santaluces soccer team is more than a team it’s family that keeps strong bonds through every game no matter win or lose.
