Recently, I’ve re-watched a movie that I consider very special to me, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. There are a multitude of reasons as to why I love this movie, other than it being my favorite MCU film. The movie is wonderfully grounded in reality, and it makes the world of superheroes feel somewhat more realistic to me. The pacing makes you feel as if you’re running with Steve Rogers himself, and the thrill of it all gives the film so much more of an immersive experience. Every time I rewatch it, I love seeing the relationship between the “core four”; Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson, Natasha Romanoff, and my personal favorite, Bucky Barnes. To me, the development of these relationships are awesome, like how Natasha goes from a ‘frenemy’ to a trusted person as they team up for the first half of the movie, how Sam comes in hand with helping the team out, and how the relationship between Bucky and Steve is explored.
The relationship between Bucky and Steve is honestly the most interesting part of the movie for me. I really love how even though Bucky barely has lines in the movie, his actor manages to convey a lot through his eyes. Like when they reunite in the highway fight scene. In this scene, Steve asks who Bucky is, and when he responds he has this saddening look of confusion on his face. At another point in the movie, when they have their final fight on the helicarrier, you can see the look in Bucky’s eyes as he recognizes his best friend is the man whom he’s been fighting the whole time. The entire movie really is incredible and the choreography of each fight scene is excellent. When you see the characters fighting, the hits look authentic.
I also like how Hydra always feels like a looming darkness over the characters, with the secrecy of the organization being stressed throughout the movie. The secrecy is something I really take a liking for, as like I said earlier, it makes the movie feel so much more realistic. I loved this movie, and I don’t think a day will ever go by where I’m not entertained by it. Be sure to give it a watch if you haven’t already!
