Santaluces offers many AICE classes to students who are capable and interested in taking a college level course for college credit. AICE is the Advanced International Certificate of Education which was developed by the University of Cambridge in England. Today, AICE is offered in high schools across the United States.
The School District of Palm Beach County and Cambridge Assessment International Education hosted the “AICE Scholar Awards” at the Hilton Palm Beach Airport to honor those who not only took multiple AICE classes the year before, but who also excelled in them. Eleven students from Santaluces were invited to attend these awards, including nine seniors and two juniors.
The night included several guest speakers such as the superintendent of the School District of Palm Beach County, Dr. Donald E. Fennoy and assistant vice president for enrollment management at Florida State University, John Barnhill.
AICE scholar, Paola Salvado, said “I enjoyed the night so much. Hearing the speeches of all those prestigious people, including the girl younger than me who got the highest mark in the country, inspired me to keep going and not give up yet and to keep pushing even once I graduate.”
During the night, they awarded the students who scored top in the country from Palm Beach County. There were a total of five students who had the highest AICE scores in the country ranging from courses such as marine science to media studies.
As an AICE scholar myself, I was very proud to be at the awards and I was amazed that there were so many other students in Palm Beach County that are just as motivated as I am.
Students who excelled in their AICE courses were also awarded with bags including, highlighters, chocolates, USB drives, pins and notepads. The following students from Santaluces were awarded: Aliya Linan, Alycia Celia, Isabella Botero, Jaciah Rashid, Kyla Prudent, Maidele Saintyl, Melanie Guzman, Micaela Saravia, Paola Salvado, Shaina Francis and Sophie Sunderland.
