As October comes to a close, new and exciting releases are on their way. With the season for horror movies ending, the box office won’t be overtaken by R-rated dramas. Some new releases are comedies, thrillers, and children’s content. Frequent moviegoers will be happy to hear that this list compiles the best movies coming out before 2020.
- Little Women
‘Little Women’ is the well-known story of the March sisters and their lives as young women during the 1800s. The film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Timothee Chalamet, and Meryl Streep to name just a few. There have been many recreations of this iconic story, perhaps none as anticipated as Greta Gerwig’s. Gerwig made her directorial debut in 2017 with the now critically acclaimed film Ladybird. Since Ladybird’s release fans have been waiting for more from Gerwig, and she has delivered with Little Women. Releasing on Christmas Day, Little Women offers audiences the heartwarming story of ‘Little Women’ and the brilliance of Greta Gerwig as both a writer and director.
2. Knives Out
Coming to theaters on November 27th, Knives Out is the comedic thriller that almost any audience can enjoy. The film offers mystery and a star-studded cast: Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, and Jamie Lee Curtis to name just a few. When the patriarch of a larger than life family mysteriously passes away, Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) must figure out who is responsible, and he is ruling out no suspects. Knives Out is rated PG-13 and can be a perfect opportunity for a family movie night.
3. Queen & Slim
Queen & Slim, starring Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith, follows the story of a first date gone terribly wrong. This movie is much more dramatic than some of the other films on this list. Although this film is not as family friendly as some others, the story is important for people to see on the big screen. Queen & Slim asks ethical questions and brings attention to the mistreatment of black people by police officers in America. Queen & Slim hits theaters on November 27th and has received an R-rating.
4. Ford v Ferrari
Ford v Ferrari tells the incredible true story of a battle between two of today’s major automobile manufacturers. Car designer Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and race car driver Ken Miles (Christian Bale) team up to make history during the 24 Hours of Le Mans event in France. The event has been running since the 1920s and is considered to be the most well respected car racing event in the world. History was made there in the 60s in a previously untold story of perseverance and strength. Ford v Ferrari allows audiences a look into one of the most incredible true events in automobile history.
