President Donald Trump has been impeached for the second time. This makes Trump the first US President to be impeached twice.
The House of Representatives voted 232-197 on the article of inciting insurrection. Based on the events of January 6th, when a violent mob stormed the Capitol Building in an attempt to halt President-elect Biden’s confirmation.
The trial will now be brought to the Senate. Considering this is an unprecedented circumstance, it is unknown as to what exactly will happen if the Senate confirms the impeachment. There is speculation that he will be barred from holding federal office or have his pension revoked. As of right now, it is unclear when exactly the Senate will vote. However, it is unlikely the Senate will summon before Biden’s inauguration on January 20th.
