Meet Don Darius, an eleventh grader that runs track here at Santaluces High. He is usually one of the people who typically writes sports news for The Tribe, but today I wrote about him.
This is his second year running track. Don runs the 200 and 400. His personal record for the 200 is 24 seconds. When I asked Don what made him want to run track, he said, “The coaches. I’m cool with Coach Chat and he thought I should join the team.” Don says that running track is a love-hate relationship. He says, “At times, especially at practice, I feel like walking off the track and going straight home, but when we go to meets and see how much the practice pays off, it becomes even more worth it.
Off the track, Don is a part-time college student and likes to play video games.
In his opinion, the worst event to run is the 400 and the best to run is the 100. I asked Don if he partook in field events which one would he want to do? He said, “I’d have to choose a long jump and high jump. A lot of people say this, but I couldn’t see myself doing any other field event.
Being that it’s Don’s Junior year, one regret he has is that he wishes he would’ve invested in track earlier. He truly does enjoy the track, it’s a fun activity for him.
