Recently, scientists, who study extreme inactivity, have revealed that the lack of exercising for a long period of time may lead to the serious threat on some part of the body system. Initially, to better understand the physical obstacles astronauts face in weightless environments, they uncovered evidence about how quickly the body deteriorates without regular movement. The research has shown that just three-weeks of bed rest can age a person’s cardiovascular system as dramatically as three decades of natural aging. When the body stays still for a long period of time, there will be some obvious signs. Specifically, blood volume will decrease, the heart will not be able to pump efficiently, and the arteries begin to stiffen at an accelerated rate. These signs not only appeared on elderly people but also in young people. Healthy volunteers joined in a controlled bed-rest study and, after only 21 days, many showed remarkable reduction in heart strength, circulation, and overall cardiovascular resilience, indicating that inactivity triggers decline far more quickly than most people realize.
Furthermore, researchers are concerned that these findings aren’t reduced to individuals who are bedridden due to illness or injury. These days, many more people are seen or known to be laying all day on their bed to play games or watch TV. This habit potentially threatens your health. The limitation of daily physical activity can create harmful conditions over time, which can elevate the risk of heart disease and poor circulation.
On the other hand, the studies emphasized hopeful messages about what simple activities we can do to keep our health away from illness. Some of these include taking short walks, stretching throughout the day, or standing up regularly. All of these can support and maintain healthy blood flow and keep the heart functioning efficiently.
