Santaluces Community High School was founded in 1982 and the memories created here throughout these years are unforgettable. It’s crazy to think about all of the past students that have roamed these same halls, sat in the same places we sit when we eat our lunch in the courtyard, sitting in the same classrooms. It gives you a sense of nostalgia even if you weren’t there to experience it, if that makes sense in a way.
The school has gone through several changes throughout the years but it is still the same when you really think about it. We have the same motto in the gym, we all avoid walking on the chief symbol in the courtyard because we heard that if you do, you won’t graduate. Our football field still has the same electric feel it did decades ago during the games. No matter what may happen to Santaluces, it has been and will still be considered a second home for many students, staff, and alumni.
So many lives have been changed and affected right here at Santaluces High, so many memories have been made here. That can be said for every other high school as well. It’s where teenagers begin to find themselves and discover new things that they might like or dislike. High school is where you begin to develop into your own person. It’s where you grow as a person and that’s something special that will never leave you.
I think that if you ever got a chance to talk to any high school alumni, especially from Santaluces, it would be a very eye opening experience for both you and the alumni. You would probably find that they had the same thoughts you did about high school. About things like prom, grad bash, football games, friends and the struggle to make them. The things that really make the high school experience and all the things you look forward to when you’re about to start high school. Our parents were once our age too, going through life the best way they knew how just like we are today. Of course times have changed, there’s no doubt about that and of course the addition of social media does add another layer to being a teenager in high school. But when you think about this experience we go through, it’s all the same at the core.
As a senior, I’m soon going to be looking back on my high school years and I can only speak for myself when I say that I know that I will miss it. You only have 4 years. You want to make the absolute best of them before they’re over. It’s imperative to get involved, make new friends, join all the clubs you can find, volunteer whenever possible, try out for all the sports you can! For underclassmen and even juniors, I’m sure you have all heard that same advice but it’s often said because it’s so true. If you feel like you’ve wasted your time and haven’t really made any connections at high school and you want to, I promise you still have time. It’s never too late.
When going to high school, there’s so many doors that can open up for you that could change your life forever. There’s so many future stories to experience and to be told to your kids when you get older and when they’re going to go to high school. Do everything you can, go to every event you can, go to every game, pep rally, and meeting. By exposing yourself to those experiences, you create so many memories and some of them are ones that will stick with you for the rest of your life. Enjoy your high school years.
