Wendys recently released a collaboration meal that brought to life the infamous Krabby Patty from SpongeBob. The meal included a “Krabby Patty” Burger, fries, and a special mango and vanilla frosty. It was heavily hyped by fans, all eager to finally try a Krabby Patty. Here’s what I thought:
In my opinion, the marketing was very lackluster. Apart from a couple of social media posts online, there was no real promotion. I saw barely any ads running about the collab meal or viral moments; they could have capitalized on the social media aspect of it. I think they relied too much on SpongeBob’s name and image to carry their promotion and marketing.
Apart from the bad marketing, the meal itself was a disappointment. The burger was more of a Dave’s double from Wendy’s with some tangy sauce that is so sweet you almost don’t taste it. While I won’t say it’s a bad burger, it’s not up to the standards of the infamous “Krabby Patty.” The fries were regular, nothing special, so there is nothing much to say about them. The real star of the show was the pineapple frosty, which I felt was a really good combination with the vanilla from the frosty, but other than the frosty, Wendy’s dropped the ball with the meal.
Although it’s priced fairly at $10.99, there could have been room for so much more creative exploration with the meal. I felt they could have made a completely new burger that used a sesame seed bun or had more collectible items for promotion, such as toys of the characters or even a krusty crab hat. They could have also branched off and used some of the special Krabby Patty meals from the show, such as the pretty patties or the Krabby Patty with jam, which, oddly enough, I think would be a good combo.
Overall, I would give the Wendy’s Krabby Patty meal a 6.5/10.
