Senior Gabriela Hernandez is no stranger when it comes to cheerleading. Gabriela has been apart of gymnastics and cheerleading ever since elementary school. You can see her during football games and basketball games leading the way with tons of school spirit.
“Ever since I was little, I’ve always loved cheer and told myself I wanted to do it in high school, it looked fun and was a way for me to make new friends,” says Hernandez.
Gabriela decided to put on the cheer uniform her sophomore year of high school and enjoys performing stunts. In her senior year, Gabriela also became a captain for the Santaluces Varsity Cheer team.
“It’s something I thought I’d never achieve and I’m very grateful for the opportunity,” says Hernandez.
Not only does Gabriela learn stunts and cheers, but she has also taught them to the Boys Junior Powderpuff Cheer Team during her junior year. A memory that Gabriela will always remember is the night the Boys Varsity Football team won the district championship against Park Vista.
“It was a very special moment for all of us because we were all so close and were glad their hard work paid off,” says Hernandez.
Gabriela aspires to go to college and would like to go into business or athletic training and management.
For those looking to join the Varsity Cheerleading team, Gabriela offers some advice:
“Always be confident and never doubt yourself, always work on becoming better and getting along with all the other cheerleaders.”
