Many people claim that October is their favorite month of the year. The beginning of October means the return of pumpkin spice flavored snacks and drinks, the mass purchasing of candy, and most importantly, scary movies. Here are my top 10 favorite movies to watch during this month.
- Beetlejuice – A new family moves into a haunted house where the spirits are trying to scare the family away.
- The Corpse Bride – Animated film in which a dead bride wants to marry a man who is alive. Oh, and engaged!
- The Rocky Horror – A couple gets a flat tire while being stuck at Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s mansion during a storm. Little do they know they’re in for a crazy night filled with singing, dancing and bizarre characters.
- A Nightmare on Elm Street – Teenagers start having weird dreams where they are hunted by Freddy Krueger, who ends up murdering multiple teenagers. The only way to escape is to stop sleeping.
- Saw – If you’re afraid of puppets used by ventriloquists, be prepared to be even more afraid. In this movie a ‘puppet’ turns people against each other in a twisted game of ‘survival of the fittest’.
- Carrie – A young girl who is abused by her mother and her classmates goes to prom, gets pranked, and kills almost everyone, including her mother.
- Casper – A father and a daughter move into a house haunted by a family of ghosts, one being Casper who is a friendly, young ghost. Casper falls in love with the daughter, they plan to go to the Halloween dance together and fortunately it ends up working out.
- Halloween – A six-year-old ends up being sentenced and put away for 15 years. When he gets out, he searches for his next victims in his hometown.
- The Addams’ Family – Gomez Addams’ “missing” brother turns up at the Addams’ house. Morticia, Gomez’s wife, starts to suspect that the man is an imposter.
- Halloweentown – A classic Disney movie where a 13 year-old named Marnie saves the world from Kalabar, a warlock who wants to turn mortals into monsters.
