My favorite music genres range from post Hardcore and Metalcore to Pop-punk. If you also enjoy music in the pop punk or Metalcore music scene, this article is for you! These are my top 12 favorite bands.
1.Beartooth -Beartooth has been one of my favorite bands for around 3 years now. Check out my review for their newest album, “Aggressive” here: https://shsthetribe.com/entertainment/2016/09/13/album-review-aggressive/ .
2. Chiodos -Chiodos is a band from Michigan that formed in 2001. They’re an acquired taste, but once you listen to them a few times you may be tempted to listen to them all day!
3. Four Year Strong -This band is a pop-punk/ melodic hardcore band that formed in 2001. I was late to the party and recently found them. I wish it hadn’t taken me such a long time to find them!
4. La Dispute – La Dispute is also an acquired taste due to their somewhat dark lyrics, but they are definitely one of my top 3 favorite bands. My favorite La Dispute songs are “Nobody, Not Even The Rain” and “Stay Happy There.”
5. Mallory Knox -I found Mallory Knox at Warped Tour, while admiring their lead vocalist’s face. Not only is this band great, but their first album was released only 3 years ago! I recommend “Oceans”, “Ghost in the Mirror”, and “Lighthouse.”
6. Miss May I – Miss May I is a ‘metalcore’ band that formed in 2007. This band is one of the heaviest I’ve personally listened to. I didn’t like them at first, but now I love them!
7. Neck Deep – Neck Deep is a pop-punk band from the UK. Their newest album came out during August of 2015. My favorite song by Neck Deep is “Smooth Seas Don’t Make Good Sailors.”I don’t think you can truly say you listen to pop-punk if you don’t listen to Neck Deep.
8. Oceans Ate Alaska -Oceans Ate Alaska is a Metalcore band that I not only found, but got to see live this year. Their music is pretty good, even though live they don’t live up to their albums.
9. Of Mice & Men -Austin Carlile and Alan Ashby (ginger princess), ’nuff said. In all reality, Of Mice & Men is a great band that you should definitely be listening to.
10. Our Last Night -Post-hardcore band who not only has 5 full length albums, but also covers pop songs via their YouTube channel. They’re awesome, please check them out.
11. PVRIS -Female fronted “american rock” band. Last year I was obsessed with their album “White Noise.” Please give them a chance, they are not only great live but their albums are pretty good.
12. The Story So Far – I saved the best for last. The Story So Far is a pop-punk band that is definitely my favorite band. They also happen to be great live. I cannot stress how much I love TSSF; if you take one thing from this story it should be to listen to TSSF.
At the end of the day, these bands are all pretty mainstream. They’re are almost always local, undiscovered bands. Please support local bands, you may find one that you fall in love with!
