I recently just binge-watched the limited series “Maid” on Netflix, and let’s just say I was intrigued. The recommendation came from the newspaper site itself, and I’m glad I came across it.
When watching the first episode, I didn’t know what to expect… I thought I was going to be bored quickly, but surprisingly, it didn’t bore me like a lot of other shows do.
I admired Alex throughout the show very much. She had to go through a lot having to deal with her bipolar mother, and her daughter, Maddy. Having to go from place to place had to have been extremely hard for her. I can’t imagine how she felt.
The amount of courage and determination she had in order to create a better life for her and her daughter is beyond admirable.
Sean, on the other hand… I wasn’t a fan of him that much. He was the reason why Alex had to go through what she went through, and he still caused hardship on Alex’s journey to success and happiness. He failed to realize that and constantly played the victim role. (UGH!)
I don’t want to talk about ALL the characters, but as for Regina, I had ambiguous feelings about her. Towards the beginning of the series, I didn’t really like her because she seemed to have this carefree attitude towards Alex, which I wasn’t too fond of because Alex was very nice to her.
However, towards the end of the series, I started to like her because she finally became comfortable with talking to Alex, and became vulnerable towards her, which I enjoyed seeing because it’s not always good to bottle up feelings. She became the friend that Alex wasn’t aware she needed and vice versa.
This show was a very good show, and it opens your eyes to realize that there is such thing as emotional abuse. Abuse isn’t only physical or sexual.
Resources are out there and should be used to their advantage.
Although the show has its many pros, I’m not too happy at the fact that there won’t be a season 2 because of the fact that it’s a limited series, but it was great while it lasted.
It gets a 10/10 rating from me! 🙂
