Outer Banks is a show about people called Kooks and Pogues. A Kook is someone more on the wealthy side who feels entitled, while a Pogue is someone with less money who lives in the cut but still lives their life. This show has four seasons, and the second half of the fourth season just came out on November 7th. It was the craziest season yet. They describe the first season as adventurous, the second season as chaotic, the third season as crazy but lighthearted at the end, and the fourth season as very depressing.
This season, the Pogues had just come back from retrieving the gold after Ward died. They converted the gold into money, receiving over one million dollars, which they planned to use for Poguelandia. Their idea was to buy property for a shop combined with a house for Poguelandia, but they got ripped off at the auction. It didn’t help that the property used to belong to Luke Maybank. Still, they built Poguelandia, and it was going well for a long time—until the Kooks wanted to take their place because the Pogues could no longer afford it.
Later, the Pogues were invited to meet with city officials because of the great things they had accomplished with the gold. This showed that they were trusted with these adventures, even though they were only 18 to 20 years old. The Generette family then asked the Pogues to help them recover a treasure because they believed there was a curse on them. Larissa Generette had died, and her father believed he would be next. They wanted the Pogues to save them. Despite the dangers, the Pogues agreed, but many people tried to kill them during the process.
Later, it was revealed that JJ’s real mother and father were Larissa and Groff Generette, though Groff denied it. Meanwhile, the Pogues still had to attend their court date regarding Poguelandia. They showed up, but it seemed like there was scheming involved, as if the resolution had already been decided. The Kooks, who hated the Pogues, ended up taking Poguelandia from them. This happened because of Topper and the man who raised JJ. This caused great disappointment among the Pogues—Cleo, Kie, JJ, John B, Pope, and Sarah—but it hit JJ the hardest.
JJ was so hurt that he lashed out, breaking the courthouse window, smashing cars and jewelry store windows, and starting fires. He was on the run. His friends eventually found him, but by then, they were focused on finding the treasure. Meanwhile, Groff confessed to being JJ’s father, and Sarah revealed she was pregnant with John B’s baby. JJ went to search for clues with Groff, but Groff acted suspiciously. Eventually, Groff framed JJ for Hollis’s murder—though Groff was the true killer—and even attempted to kill JJ.
The Pogues then had to travel to Morocco to look for the treasure, joined by Rafe. It was a long journey. Rafe nearly died, but Sarah saved him, and they somewhat rekindled their relationship. Eventually, JJ and Kie found the blue crown, and JJ was ecstatic. But Groff appeared, holding Kie at knifepoint and demanding the crown. Out of love for Kie, JJ handed over the crown, thinking it would end the conflict—but it didn’t.
Groff pretended everything was over but then stabbed JJ, killing him in front of Kie. Kie was devastated and let out a gut-wrenching scream, calling for Pope and John B, as they were the original members of the group. JJ had been close to all of them, and his death shattered them. Rafe ended up burying JJ because no one else had the strength to do it.
The season ends on a cliffhanger, showing the Pogues preparing to seek revenge for JJ. This was especially heartbreaking because JJ had been a special part of all their lives and everyone’s best friend.
