Would you believe that our favorite basketball coach is not only a teacher but a professor as well? If not, let me introduce Mr. Coach Professor Dixon!
Would you believe us if we told you that our favorite basketball coach isn’t also just a teacher, but a college professor as well? If not, let us introduce both Coach and Professor Dixon!
Coach Dixon has been working at Santaluces for 28 years and has been teaching at the college level for about 22 years. When he first started working at Santaluces, he wasn’t immediately head coach. He joined the coaching staff in 1997 as the JV Coach and didn’t become head coach until 2010. Being that this was his first coaching position he was excited, as it opened up a new chapter and a fresh start.
When asked, he told us that his best season so far was his first year as head coach. He stated that, “We lost the district championship game and the regional semi-finals, but we had a strong group of young men to help push us far.”
Coach Dixon has been a part of the Santaluces staff for almost thirty years. As one of the original teachers on campus, a piece of advice he would give to the new generation of teachers is to set your boundaries. He says, “You have got to put your foot down the first day. You have got to set your rules. Once you do that, you can build relationships with the kids”
If Coach Dixon wasn’t a highschool teacher he stated that he would have joined the basketball Coaching staff at Palm Beach State College. Another fun fact about Coach Dixon is that he went to school with Deion Sanders.
