World renowned theoretical physicist and author passed away earlier this week on Pi Day, March 14. The Science world has been rocked to its core, leaving in its wake many saddened colleagues and followers.
“His passing has left an intellectual vacuum in his wake. But it’s not empty. Think of it as a kind of vacuum energy permeating the fabric of spacetime that defies measure. Stephen Hawking, RIP 1942-2018.”
-Neil Degrasse Tyson
The day usually being spent talking about the mathematical constant and serving up pies of all kind was allocated to remembering Stephen Hawking as the scientific great that he was.
Stephen Hawking was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. This caused degeneration of parts of his nervous system, leaving him immobile, unable to speak, and only able to move a few fingers which allowed him to communicate through a computer.
Despite his unexpected death, he left behind a lot of great work in the realm of physics and a lot of highly respected books.
Dr.Hawking may be gone now, but his legacy will live on.
