Intro
Over the summer I was really bored and took to Youtube to find some source of entertainment, I scrolled through Youtube and came across a Youtuber playing a game called In Stars and Time, naturally I was curious so I clicked on it and from that singular gameplay video I became completely obsessed with this game. I watched every live where that youtuber or any other youtuber was playing the game, I looked up the game dev socials, I even watched silent commentary of people playing the game just so I could fully take in the story. But when I was on this unhinged search something kept popping up in my mind.” This game is literally so great, how come barely anybody knows about it though”?
What are Indie games?
But before we dive too deep into the topic it’s important to define what an indie game is. So, what is an indie game? An indie game or independent game is a video game made by a solo developer or a small team usually without financial or managerial support, some popular examples of indie games today would be Cuphead, Among Us, Undertale and others.
Underappreciated indie games
Over the years indie games have grown more and more popular, mostly because of their uniqueness and their willingness to try new things and take risks with their game, but even with their growing popularity there are indie games that can still go unrecognized. Compared to Triple AAA, which are big league games that have a bigger budget for production and marketing, some indie games usually don’t have the resources to market their games, leading them to go unrecognized by the masses.
What is In Stars in Time?
In Stars in Time is one of these underappreciated unrecognized indie games and I definitely believe they are not getting the recognition and attention they deserve, so, what is In Stars in Time about anyways? Well In Stars in Time is a time loop game that was created by the developer, Adrienne Bazir also known as insertdisc5. The game focuses on the character Siffrin and his allies. The game starts at the end of their journey and their final mission is to beat the the King and save the country of Vanguarde from the King’s curse but the twist is that Siffrin is constantly looping back in time every time he beats the King to where he first started. Not only does this make it impossible to accomplish his mission, but it also starts to affect his mental health making his thoughts and behaviors more and more concerning.
That was just a small description of what the game is about and its plot. I highly encourage you to play the game for yourself, its story concept is unique and the characters in the game are all highly charming and distinctive. I mostly just wanted to reference In Stars in Time because It gave me the inspiration to talk about indie games and how they can go unnoticed in a big industry such as the video games industry.
Conclusion
Just like sculpting or sewing video games and video game development is a art, and the people that make this arts spent months and years on it, it’s important to shed light on up and coming indie game developers and their game, it’s very easy for really good indie games like In Stars In Time to go unnoticed because of the vast variety of games that are published by big companies in the industry. So I recommend In Stars and Time as the first indie game you should play and who knows maybe you’ll like it more then me!
