It was The Sheriff versus the Pretty Boy, but the The Sheriff prevailed and rode into the sunset a champion after his last rodeo.
In Super Bowl 50, before kickoff, all of the previous Super Bowl MVP’s were honored for their greatness in the big game. Many came out and were cheered, but as Tom Brady or any Patriot player came out, they were booed.
In the first quarter, The Broncos started off hot as they drove up the field to nail a Brandon McManus field goal to put the score at 3-0 in favor of Denver. On Carolina’s second drive, LB Von Miller broke through the offensive line and caused a Cam Newton fumble to fall into the endzone to put the Broncos up 10-0 on the NFC’s number one seed.
Denver was firing on all cylinders.
In the second, Carolina responded early with a touchdown run by RB Jonathan Stewart, making the score 10-7. For the rest of the quarter, it was hard-hitting football, with the game going back and forth, the Lombardi Trophy still within arms reach for both teams. Close to halftime, Brandon McManus connected to extend the Broncos lead to six. The halftime score was 13-7 and Denver was cruising.
After a halftime show that consisted of Beyoncé, Coldplay, and Bruno Mars, the Broncos and Panthers were ready for a second half of championship football.
In the second half, it seemed that Carolina’s offense nearly flatlined and Denver’s defense made big plays. Graham Gano missed a field goal, Cam Newton fumbled the ball again in his side of the field, and Denver scored and also a two point conversion padded their lead to 14.
Denver could smell the Lombardi Trophy in the air.
In the last seconds of the game, Cam Newton threw a short pass and his receiver was tackled to clinch the Super Bowl for Denver. The Lombardi Trophy was officially coming back to the Mile High City. As for the MVP, it was rightfully earned by Outside Linebacker Von Miller who had two and a half sacks and two strip fumbles that Denver converted into touchdowns. In the end, The Sheriff rode off into the sunset on top with his deputies right by his side.
