The chair turning, button punching, singer stealing part is over and the final 20 hopefuls are hitting the live shows.
The Live shows ignited Monday night with Coach Christina Aguilera starting the fire with a performance alongside Flo Rida for “How I Feel.”
First up was Team Blake’s former pageant girl and newlywed Shelbie Z, who performed a feisty rendition of Reba McEntire’s “Fancy.” Next was Adam’s nerdy casanova, James Wolpert, who had a lot to prove after a less than great performance during the Knockouts. He performed “A Case of You” by Joni Mitchell and landed in the top ten on iTunes.
Following James was Blake’s stolen artist Nic Hawk who sauntered around the stage to the summer’s biggest hit “Blurred Lines,” performing the singing and rapping of the song. Another one of team Blake’s proteges, Ray Boudreax, tapped into his hometowns “swamp-pop” style with a cover of ”Home” by Marc Broussard.
Team Blake moped driver, Austin Jencks, tapped into his sensitive side with a performance with “She Talks to Angels.” Then came Adam’s wedding songstress, Grey, performing her version of Paramore’s “Still Into You.”
Next was team flip flopper Will Champlin with an emotional cover of One Republic’s “Secrets,” that had the coaches regretting missing out on him. Team Adam’s old soul, Preston Pohl, left everything on the stage with his performance of B.o.B’s “Nothing On You.”
Team Blake’s stolen bearded crooner, Cole Vasbury, gave a stellar performance of Rod Stewart’s “Maggie May,” that left the coaches stunned at the fact that he was a single chair turner. Closing out Monday nights show was Team Adam’s powerhouse Tessanne Chin with an inhumanly amazing rendition of “Many Rivers to Cross” by Jimmy Cliff, who she sang back up for back in Jamaica. When she finished she was brought to tears and the crowd brought incoherent babbles.
Team Christina and Cee Lo performed the following night, after having the bar set high by Blake and Adam’s teams.
Christina started Tuesday nights show again with a duet with up-and-coming group A Great Big World on “Say Anything.”
Team Cee Lo hit the stage first, starting with 17 year old Amber Nicole, who sang “Wasting all these tears” by season’s three winner Cassadee Pope. Next up was Air Force veteran and rocker Jonny Gray with “Bittersweet symphony,” although it was anything but bittersweet.
After Jonny came former gospel singer Tamara Chauniece, belting out “I Will Survive.” Cee Lo’s over-the- top Kat Robichaud performed Mary Lambert’s “She Keeps Me Warm,” hugging a random audience member after finishing. Cee Lo’s soft spoken teen, Caroline Pennell, then opened the gates to heaven with the White stripes’ “We Are Going To Be Friends.”
Team Christina’s Josh Logan sang Cee Lo’s song “Crazy,” adding his own flare with his guitar and smoky tone. Next was Olivia Henken shedding her clean-cut country image by singing Katy Perry’s “Roar.”
Former cruise ship singer Stephanie Ann Johnson performed “Georgia On My Mind” by Ray Charles followed by the artist who had the fastest four chair turn, Matthew Schuler, with his version of Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball,” minus the hammer licking and naked shenanigans.
Closing the night was Christina’s youngest artist, Jacqui Lee, who cast a trance on the coaches and audience alike with “I Put a Spell On You.”
The twenty will be cut down to twelve on Thursday night’s live show.
