Aside from being obsessed with thriller movies, I also love animated movies like Zootopia and Toy Story. I feel like certain animated movies don’t require a specific age to watch them, they give a great laugh and are amazing candidates for family movie nights. So, when I was in theaters watching Scream 7 and saw Hoppers along with all the other trailers, I knew I was going to enjoy it!
In the beginning, we are met with a very cute wholesome moment between the main character named Mabel and her grandmother, who are both nature lovers. The two found a spot in the forest to go to everyday, calling it their own. This was my favorite scene because it showed so much love between a grandparent and their grandchild. It also reminded me of my grandma who I love dearly. We soon fast forward to Mabel being a young adult, age 19, visiting the forest spot by herself after her grandma’s passing. Mable does everything in her power to keep the spot safe, especially in memory of her grandmother. Unfortunately, the mayor is constantly trying to build a highway near the forest, which Mable is opposed to as it will drive away the animals.
However, as Mabel tries stopping the mayor, she realizes the animals have already gone; there haven’t been any roaming around. At this point, I’m really intrigued because where could the animals have possibly gone? And what drove them away if the highway hasn’t been built yet?
Mabel begins looking for answers, and in this case, beavers are basically the forest version of “king of the jungle” and are what lead the animals there, so a beaver is what she is on the hunt for. She ends up actually finding one, but as she follows it she figures out its not what she thinks it is. Once she follows the beaver, she finds out it’s actually a robot and is controlled by this scientist she knows that used to love animals, and she was instantly confused as to why she would do something like this. This really hooked me and was a crazy plot twist and emphasized how much technology is put to use. But in this case, I feel it was necessary to create a beaver robot, because the scientist is also on the hunt for the animals and knows they will follow a beaver, so she’s actually helping in a way too and I love that.
As the movie continues the mayor actually does decide he will be making the highway and is tired of Mabel stopping him; this made me so mad. I hate when people don’t care about important things and think they can do whatever they want just because they have the power. Once Mabel had seen this, she ran back to the lab and put herself in one of the beaver robots, and oh did she love it. She was able to understand everything the animals were saying and was able to witness their everyday lives, it was the cutest thing ever. It was one of my favorite parts because personally, I constantly wonder what goes through the brains of animals since they can’t speak any human language, so to see it done was just so cool. However with her being such a loving environmentalist, she created bonds with the animals who don’t even know that she is a robot, and this caused problems because these aren’t things the animals should know about humans.
For a little while she was doing great at not letting them find out, and she even discovered that the mayor put up fake trees that release a noise only the animals can hear which drew them out of the forest. Once she found this out, she was prepared to fix it, but at this rate she’s been inside the robot body for too long and the wrong animals found out. Those who were the leader of each species had a meeting and decided they were going to take out the humans. And when I tell you I was on the edge of my seat cause I just knew how bad this can get if animals gain the power of humans. Then boom, they did. One of the craziest and angriest leaders of the group figured out how to get into the human robot of the mayor (which I felt the scientists were really dumb for making because it’s basically cloning but this isn’t my movie) and started burning the entire city down trying to kill the real mayor who caused all of this. Fortunately, Mabel saves the day ending the madness, and the mayor even gains a change of heart and doesn’t build the highway after all, allowing all the animals to come back to their homes living happily ever after.
So overall this is a great movie for all ages with a beautiful message that is to take care of our earth and to see things from different perspectives. You’ll never know you can get a change of heart. If I were to rate this I give it an 11 out of 10, I loved the plot twist and the thrill.
