When former Oklahoma quarterback steps onto the field with an NFL team, he will be the smallest quarterback  to ever play in the NFL.

At just 5-feet-10 and 194 pounds, Kyler Murray is considered “too small’ or ‘too light among both draft experts and NFL scouts to play in the NFL. By many accounts, people believe he is better fit to play professional baseball (where he was drafted in the first round by the Oakland Athletics) instead of professional football.

However, the former Oklahoma and Heisman winning quarterback should not be defined by his small frame but rather by the immense talent that has seen Murray take over as the starting quarterback following Baker Mayfield going to the NFL a year prior.

After transferring from Texas A&M to Oklahoma and playing behind the aforementioned Mayfield for a season, Murray took over and took the nation by storm, dominating every team in the Big XII and other opponents.

In fourteen games this season, Murray completed 69% of his passes for 4,361 yards and 42 touchdowns. On the ground, the thing that separates Murray from other quarterbacks, Murray added 1,000 yards and another 12 scores. Murray’s performance was critical to Oklahoma’s College Football Playoff run.

While Murray may be small, there have been other quarterbacks who have succeeded despite a smaller frame than what is considered prototypical by NFL standards.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL despite measuring in at 5-feet-11. Last season, Wilson threw for 35 touchdowns and just 7 interceptions as he led a Seahawks team lacking a lot of talent to a 10-6 record and a playoff birth, where the Seahawks were defeated by the Dallas Cowboys.

While Kyler Murray is projected to be the number one pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL Draft, it won’t matter where Murray goes. His ability to run better than most running backs and throw better than any quarterback in this class will make Murray an electrifying prospect despite his frame.
