In honor of Hispanic Heritage week, we wanted to do a behind-the-scenes with Latinos in action. We got to interview some students on how they feel about Latinos in action, what’s their role, what goes in to their thoughts of preparing, and what other events they do.
Emily Villanueva is a senior who is the president of Latinos in Action. She helped decide the spirit days for the Hispanic Heritage week. LIA has impacted her by giving her a community, she never had other Hispanic friends and through LIA she was able to make some great friends. Something you might not know about LIA is that they tutor at some elementary schools every Tuesday and Thursday. This is one of Emily’s favorite times and memories throughout the past years. LIA is one of the few classes at our school that connects with other schools in our area. They attend events throughout the year where all the schools come together and everyone meets each other.
Kassandra Acosta is a senior here at Santaluces, her role in Latinos in Action is Vice-President of Socialism. She sets up the bonding activities they do throughout the year and helps plan birthday parties for members. She joined Latinos in Action because she wanted to get more involved in school and meet new people. This class is a great way to meet different people and form great lasting friendships. LIA is also a great way to earn community service hours and participate in out-of-school events.
Emily Escalante is a sophomore here at Santaluces, she is also the Vice-President of LIA. She wants everyone to know that everyone is welcome to join LIA and it is a really fun class. If you are not as outgoing of a person, LIA is a great class to join to meet other students.
Latinos in action is more than a club, it’s like a community for everyone and anyone is welcome! Latinos in action here at Santaluces deserve to get recognition for their hard work, like in preparing our Hispanic heritage Spirit Week. Latinos in action is a great club to meet new people and learn about different cultures, and also a great way to experience different things you have never experienced. If you want to help support Santaluces High School Latinos in Action, participate in Hispanic heritage spirit week from September 23rd-27th!
