Following my recent review on the book “The Boyfriend” by Freida McFadden, I want to address yet another of her compelling works.
Freida McFadden is a 45 year old female neurologist who turned her hobby into a million-dollar job. Her first book was called “Suicide Med,” released in 2014. It was later reissued as Dead Med. She has written 32 books in counting. Fun fact: the perspective her books are written in are mainly female.
“Do Not Disturb” is a beautifully written thriller book released in September of 2021. Its contents include a woman named Quinn fleeing a crime scene after she murdered her abusive husband, seeking refuge in an eerie and unsettling motel. During her subpar stay in the ratty room, she meets a decrepit woman who guides her to learn more about what the place and the people linked to it are truly like. After seeing a sketchy woman in the building across from her she comes to a macabre conclusion.
No matter how many books of hers I read, I can never guess how they’re going to end. This book was no different. It felt like a mystery, with writing so formidable I continued to think about it even months after finishing it. I don’t think I’ve ever read a disappointing book by Freida McFadden; she never fails to surprise me.
I absolutely loved the banter between the characters, as well as the secrets being kept between them. There is unmistakable tension between many characters–so much so that your accusations shift after every page you turn. I can try tirelessly to predict it, yet I never do. That’s what makes her stand out, in my opinion.
Once again, I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a profound love for exceptional writing.
