More and more thriller authors are getting popular, which means that older authors are resurfacing with their newer works. Freida McFadden has recently reached a fever pitch. She is an existing thriller author and her work is beyond incredible.

You might recognize her through her famous series “The Housemaid”, which was a social media sensation in recent years. Aside from her renowned book series, her standalone novels are just as peerless, if not more. 

Her recently published book “The Boyfriend” is a riveting romance-thriller novel that deserves recognition. It was released in late 2024, and its plot consists of a New York City woman trying desperately to find love, but she, instead, finds craze within the people she recently met and even within the ones she thought were closest to her. 

In a nutshell, Sydney, the main character, is trying to meet her future lover through faulty dating apps, and, after meeting a creepy man, she finally meets somebody worth settling down with. On the other hand, Frieda writes about a young couple and how their relationship came about. Further in the book, both relationships start to crumble, and towards the end the main character has a horrible realization. 

Personally, I don’t care much for romance novels, but this one exceeded my expectations. The sheer mystery, plot twists, and emotion the characters evoked drew me in from the moment I read the first page. I highly recommend reading this book as well as her other works.
