After a rough start to the season, the Chiefs finally found their groove and beat Jupiter High on Friday night. Junior QB Patrick Mayes lead the team with three TD passes to three different receivers.
Jupiter set the tone of the game by scoring first in the first quarter, quieting the home crowd and shocking the Chiefs.
“We were all [still] optimistic. We knew the game wasn’t over and that we could make something happen,” said Senior Lineman Cameron St.Preus.
That optimism and determination lead the Chiefs to a quick offensive response, tying the game as it went into halftime.
However, the defense gave up another crucial touchdown, trailing 14-7 in the 3rd quarter. Mayes from that point went on an offensive tear. After tying up the game once again going into the 4th quarter, Chiefs decided it was time to show Jupiter how they really play and got amazing defensive stops and fumbles.
Now it was up to the offense to put the game away. With about 6 minutes left in game, QB Patrick Mayes led the offense to a game winning drive that took up 4 and a half crucial minutes that Jupiter needed to win the game for themselves.
The Santaluces Chiefs won the game 21-14, a much needed win that everyone on the team enjoyed, but they still have a lot to improve on.
“I was happy that we got our first win but not too happy because that’s just the start, we need to win more.” said Defensive Lineman Winaldo Jean.
Maybe this is the game that could start up the Chiefs’ winning streak. Santaluces this week plays Palm beach Central(2-3) on Thursday.
