The Minecraft movie has just been announced with a trailer, fans are outraged and I completely understand why. The story feels repetitive and has been done so many different times it reminds me of Jumanji but instead, it takes place in Minecraft. The plotline is that a group of kids end up in a game and have to find a way out. Also, the fact that the movie isn’t more creative contradicts the game.  Minecraft does have an end goal, that’s the main point of the game. Also, the fact that Steve is just Jack black in a blue shirt gives the movie a cheap look, like there was no love and effort put in. The 3d animation is decent, but it doesn’t fit the game since it’s known for low-quality graphics. Having real people in a 3-D world makes it look bothersome since they stick out,  not because of good character design but because they don’t fit the style and animation. For Jumanji, while they are not supposed to be in the game, they still fit into the game but for Minecraft, it feels cheap even though the budget is 200 million. 

 I believe that this movie would have been better as a  2-D animated film since we could have had brighter colors and better lighting and also give the animators more room to play around with the character’s design. But if the studio just couldn’t do animation for some reason to better the 3-D animation they could have done the actors in the same styles and just hire voice actors so they better fit in their world. It also would have gotten rid of some of the details on the animals and Piglins so they could really mimic the game as closely as possible. For the story I think they should have gone with Minecraft Story mode, I played the game and it has such a great story plot and the characters are so interesting, and it would have been nice to see it get animated. The story follows the main character (you) named Jessie and your pet pig Reuben where you live in the world of Minecraft. You and your friends are trying to win a building contest. You win the competition but the villain does something that might bring on the end of the world. I think this story would be better for a movie since it has a great plot and storyline. And since there are multiple parts to this story this could have become a movie series. This story is already loved by so many fans and has great scenes and leaves room for animators to get more creative. In the game, it features a wither storm instead of a regular wither and that would look amazing in theaters. 

While The Minecraft movie will not be a complete flop, I believe that they will not make a big enough profit. With a lot of fans upset and people hoping that they will change their minds as other studios have done, I don’t think a lot of people will go see it in the movie theater. While I don’t have high hopes for this movie, I hope that in the movie we see villagers and different biomes like The End, Deep Dark, and the Nether. Also, I would love to see a reference to Herobrine because even though he isn’t canon to the game he is a big part of the Minecraft legend and lore.
